You know that girl who always looks put together? Her skin looks healthy, her hair is maintained, she smells amazing, she makes time for herself and somehow seems to have her life together?
Here’s something I’ve realised: becoming that girl isn’t necessarily about expensive products, waking up at 5 AM or following a complicated morning routine. It’s often the little things she does consistently.
I’m a medical student, and I’ve always wanted to be that girl. Even with lectures, exams and long days in the hospital, I still want to take care of myself, maintain healthy habits and make time for the little things that make me feel good.
But let’s be honest, consistency isn’t always easy when life gets busy.
It’s surprisingly easy to forget to drink water when you’re busy. Keep a water bottle nearby, drink water with your meals and make refilling it part of your day. Your body needs adequate hydration to function properly, so don’t overlook this simple habit.

Little habit to start: Keep a water bottle somewhere visible and make a habit of refilling it throughout the day.
You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym every morning. Walking, dancing, stretching or a short home workout all count. Find movement you enjoy enough to make part of your lifestyle.

Little habit to start: Find 10–15 minutes for movement on days when a full workout isn’t realistic.
You don’t need a 12-step skincare routine to have healthy-looking skin. A gentle cleanser, moisturiser and daily SPF are a good place to start. Focus on understanding your skin and staying consistent rather than constantly buying trending products.

There’s something about smelling fresh that makes you feel instantly put together. Build a simple body-care routine around regular showers, a moisturiser you love, deodorant and a fragrance that suits you. It doesn’t have to be expensive!

Healthy-looking hair starts with consistent care. Keep up with your wash days, moisturise when needed, detangle gently and protect your hair while sleeping. You don’t need an elaborate collection of products; just find what works for your hair type.

Make your evening shower feel like a mini spa moment. Put on your favourite playlist while doing your skincare, use products you love and make your space feel inviting. You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy taking care of yourself.

Taking care of yourself goes beyond your appearance. Make room for balanced meals, eat regularly and include a variety of nourishing foods. You don’t need a restrictive diet or complicated meal plan. Sometimes, simply planning your meals ahead makes a difference.

Little habit to start: Try meal planning on the weekends so you don’t have to think you’ll eat before you get too busy or hungry.
A tidy environment can make everyday life feel a little less overwhelming. Make your bed, put away your clothes, organise your personal-care products and spend five minutes tidying before bed. Little resets go a long way!

Give yourself a few minutes at the end of the day to prepare for tomorrow. Do your skincare, tidy your space, choose your outfit and write down anything you need to remember. A little preparation can make your mornings feel much smoother.

Keep track of the little things that make you feel put together. Whether it’s maintaining your nails, keeping up with hair appointments, caring for your body or replacing products when they run out, having a realistic maintenance schedule helps you stay on top of everything.

Here’s the thing: you don’t have to start doing all ten habits tomorrow.
Start with two or three and gradually build from there. Create simpler versions for busy days, choose routines you genuinely enjoy and remember that missing a few days doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
You don’t need a perfect routine. You need one that works with your actual life.
